Oregano is an herb which is commonly used to add aroma and flavour to Mexican and Mediterranean cuisines. The oils of this herb, whose name means 'mountain joy' contains thymol and carvacrol, which gives it its potent anti-microbial qualities. It also contains various phytonutrients which work as a potent antioxidant capable of neutralising the effects of free radicals and reducing the risk of aging-related ailments. Oregano is also a good source of nutrients such as iron, manganese, dietary fibre, calcium, vitamin A and C.
